My friend Annamarie is well known for her epic period-themed cocktail parties. Unlike some “costume†parties where only a few people choose to dress up while others show up in their usual party attire, Annamarie’s friends know better. She sets a standard to live up to. Her closet is overflowing with vintage goods and on a regular day you may run into her on the street wearing (I should say rocking, because she always pulls it off perfectly) a dress that your grandmother may have worn in 1965.
On May 12th, Annamarie threw one of her best parties yet: a 1920s and 30s speakeasy theme. She rented a vacant space on Avenue for the Arts with ornate woodwork, stained-glass windows, an antique bar and booth seating. Jenn and Alison ran the bar (very well, I might add) and in the adjacent room, I set up a photo booth with on-site printing of strips, live-viewing and automated start of the photo-taking sequence. The guests showed up in some of the best period-attire I’ve ever seen, from authentic flapper dresses to top-hats and suits. We drank mint juleps, milled around in the bar area and periodically grabbed some friends to jump into the photo booth with. Below, you’ll find a sampling of images that indicate how much fun we had!
